About the House

A brand is more than what it looks like.

It is the feeling of entering a place and immediately understanding its rules.

The things people say there. The things they wear. The colors they remember. The symbols they recognize from across a room. The objects they keep. The stories they repeat. We build all of it.

Make Believe House is an independent creative studio. We work with founders and teams to turn ideas into complete worlds: distinct enough to recognize, rich enough to explore, and coherent enough to grow.

Make believe

Before something becomes real, someone has to imagine it. Every company begins this way, and so does every restaurant, magazine, label, product and place people eventually come to care about. For a while, it exists only in someone's head.

Our work is to close the distance between that imagined thing and the world. Not by decorating an idea after the fact, but by giving it a language, a face, a voice, a set of objects, a point of view and a life of its own. First you make it. Then people believe it.

The House

We call it a house because the work rarely belongs to one discipline. An identity becomes packaging. Packaging becomes an object. An object becomes an image. An image becomes a room. A room becomes a memory. Strategy, design, language, photography, illustration, product and culture are treated as parts of the same world.

The commercial world already contains enough things. We want to give some of them a world.

What we believe

Brands should feel discovered: as though they already existed, with rooms you have not entered yet. Play is a serious tool: it finds the characters, rituals and rules that make a brand impossible to confuse with another one. Taste is not a strategy: beautiful things are everywhere, and distinct things are harder to make. And the world comes before the logo: once we understand the place a brand belongs in, the identity has somewhere to come from.

What we make

Worlds, identities, images, objects and places. The central idea and the logic that holds it together. Names, marks, typography, color and illustration. Art direction, photography and campaigns. Packaging, printed matter, uniforms, menus and signage. Websites, retail, launches and installations: the spaces where people step inside the brand.

How we work

We begin with the part that cannot be designed: the idea. Then we give it rules. A visual language, a vocabulary, a sense of humor, a material world, a way of behaving. Only then do we make things. The result is not a collection of assets. It is a system capable of imagining new ones.

Bring us something unfinished. A company with no name. A product without a world. A world without a form. hello@makebelievehouse.com
